Castle Lodge is medieval elizabethan, Tudor architectural transition period house in Ludlow, Shropshire, situated close to Ludlow Castle. Scenes from the film "Moll Flanders" were shot here in 1965. Castle Lodge has some of the largest collections of oak paneling in England and dates from the early 13th Century, rebuilt in 1580. During tudor times Castle Lodge was home to Elizabeth I's Master of Requests and was once used as a prison.

Castle Lodge along with Ludlow Castle is itself famous for being the residence of Catherine of Aragon while she was married to Prince Arthur.

Prince Arthur was sent to Ludlow Castle to preside over the Council of Wales and Marches, as was his duty as Prince of Wales, and Catherine his bride accompanied him. The couple stayed at Castle Lodge, Ludlow, a few months later, they both became ill, possibly with the sweating sickness which was sweeping the area during that time. Prince Arthur died on 2nd April 1502, Catherine recovered to find herself a widow.

She later re-married Prince Arthur's younger Brother Henry, who later became Henry VIII. Catherine spent many happy years in Ludlow, some say she still visits Castle Lodge, her former home.

Castle Lodge throughout it's history has been privately owned and up to the outbreak of  WWII was a hotel.  Castle Lodge reopened to the public in 1999 after extensive renovations costing the current owner over £100.000.

Paranormal activity

Visitors to Castle Lodge have reported seeing the apparition of a 15 to 16 year old girl seemingly wearing tudor costume who likes to visit the nursery room as well as walk the attic corridors. Cold spots and the feeling of being watched in many areas of the building have been reported many times.

Previous owners say that one male visitor who was visiting the attic rooms came rushing downstairs trembling with fear claiming he saw a young woman approach him and suddenly disappear through a closed door, the spirit in question is believed to be the ghost of Catherine of Aragon who has returned to Castle Lodge.
